The Friends of Crown Heights Educational Centers, Inc., (FOCH), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is looking for qualified individuals to serve in the following capacities at our COMPASS-NYC After-school program in Brooklyn:

Positions: Group Leaders/Youth Workers – Part-time
Location: Friends of Crown Heights #2 (671-675 Prospect Place, Brooklyn)
Transportation: 2, 3, 4, 5 trains; B65, B45, B49, B48

Minimum qualifications:

  1. High school diploma
  2. Previous experience in working at the elementary school level (kindergarten to 5th grade)
  3. Experience and interest in one or more of the following areas: art & craft, music, language arts, STEM, physical fitness/organized sports
  4. Willingness to learn and to work closely and respectfully with children and co-workers

Duties & Responsibilities:
Working closely with the Site Director and the Educational Specialist, the Group Leader/Youth Worker will:

  1. provide homework assistance to students;
  2. tutor students in two or more of the following activities: mathematics, science, language arts and social studies;
  3. prepare and implement activity plans, as identified and/or recommended by the Education Specialist and the Site Director;
  4. keep student records, such as attendance and progress reports;
  5. implement health and safety protocols, as required by the Department of Health; and carry out any other duties assigned by the Site Director

Job Description: The Friends of Crown Heights Educational Centers, Inc., (FOCH), is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Educational Director at two or more of our Early Childhood Education Centers. These full-time positions are open immediately. The successful candidates must possess the New York State Education Department’s teacher certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth to Second Grade), and a minimum of three years’ classroom experience as a Group Teacher in a licensed preschool program. Familiarity with the NYC Division of Early Childhood Education’s program operations and requirements will be considered a plus.

The Educational Director is responsible for the overall administration of the Early Childhood Education Center to which s/he is assigned. S/he directs and supervises the implementation of the curriculum and teaching process and is the principal liaison with all regulatory and oversight agencies including the NYC Department of Health and NYC Department of Education (NYCPS). S/he ensures compliance with all local, state and national standards. Other duties include mentoring new teachers, designing and presenting professional development workshops and seminars and conducting classroom observations and evaluations. S/he is also responsible for maintaining all staff and student records and is additionally responsible for ensuring that all staff, consultants and volunteers deliver services in a manner that is culturally sensitive to our program participants, their families and the surrounding community.

Salary: $85k – $95k
