Mayor-Elect Mamdani Visits Friends of Crown Heights Educational Center
On Thursday, November 13th, our Friends of Crown Heights school community was honored and proud to host Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani for an historic visit to our 141 E40th Street Early Childhood Education Center in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn. After meeting with agency leaders and educators to learn about the challenges facing the sector, the Mayor-Elect visited a classroom to engage with children at work, and later met with media covering the event to talk about how his plan for free Early Childhood education and care would help families citywide.
Mayor-Elect Mamdani was accompanied by NYC Council Member Rita Joseph, who chairs the Council’s Education Committee, and New York State Assemblywoman Monique Chandler-Waterman. They were welcomed and briefed by a high-level team of FOCH leaders, led by CEO/Executive Director Angalie Dasai, CFO Ligaya Decastro, Senior Educational Director Maureen Johnson, and fellow Directors Tashoy Saddler, Mara Suarez and Chanell Bryan.
