Special Visit and Read-Aloud with Speaker Emerita Adrienne Adams
Our young scholars were delighted earlier this month to welcome former New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams for a special Read-Aloud presentation at our 671 Prospect Place Center (KBOF) in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. Speaker Adams, the first African American to serve as Speaker in the history of the New York City Council, was joined by Council Members Crystal Hudson and Rita Joseph, as well as New York State Assemblymember Phara Souffrant Forrest. Council Members Hudson and Joseph chair the Council Committees on General Welfare and Higher Education, respectively, while Assemblymember Souffrant Forrest chairs the State Assembly Task Force on New Americans.
Beyond her distinguished career in public service, Speaker Adams holds an impressive background in corporate training, human capital management, and Early Childhood Development. Her previous professional experience has included executive training and telecommunications management at several Fortune 500 companies. She has also served as a Child Development Associate (CDA) instructor, preparing child-care professionals to earn their CDA credentials in accordance with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Code of Ethics.
For Speaker Emerita Adams, returning to the classroom to engage with our young scholars was a special “homecoming” of sorts—an opportunity to reconnect with her passion for Early Childhood Education and the formative experiences that help shape young minds.
Speaker Emerita Adams was warmly welcomed by a high-level team of FOCH educators and agency executives, led by CEO/Executive Director Angalie Dasai and Chief Financial Officer Ligaya Decastro, alongside Senior Educational Director Hestelle Nichols and Educational Directors Tashoy Saddler, Traceyann Essien, Chanell Bryan, and Maria Suarez.
We are grateful to Speaker Emerita Adams and our distinguished guests for sharing their time, talent, and enthusiasm with our young scholars.
