Caren Charles DeFreitas currently serves as Assistant Educational Director of our 411 Dumont Avenue Center in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. With more than 40 years of continuous and progressively responsible experience and expertise in the field of education, Ms. Caren (as she is affectionately called by both children and colleagues alike), has devoted her entire career to a singular purpose: nurturing and guiding everyone she encounters to fulfill their ultimate potential.  

Ms. Caren migrated to the United States from St. Vincent and the Grenadines in 1993 and joined the staff at PB Children’s Academy in 1994. She would spend the next 21 years in that program, moving steadily up the ranks from teacher to Director over the course of her tenure. She also served for two additional years as an Assistant Director with the Bambi Daycare agency before joining our Friends of Crown Heights family.

Ms. Caren holds a bachelor ‘s degree in Childhood Education from Brooklyn College and the Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Grand Canyon University. She is currently preparing to pursue the professional certification in School Building Leadership in the near future.

With a commitment to children and their education as her top priority, Ms. Caren endeavors always to be up to date on educational trends and learning outcomes. She is an active member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and a published author of several children’s books.
